Robinson is a multi-hyphenated artivist and healer, who uses the art of storytelling as a way to hold space for others. As the daughter of superhero parents, (A Father who was a community organizer and church leader, reared in the Jim Crow South and an immigrant Jamaican mother of 3 with a B.A. and working on her Masters). Monique inherited a legacy of faith, resilience, integrity, and hard work. She holds fast to the motto: ‘you are not your circumstances.” A through line found in her written work. Robinson was born and raised in sunny, Fort. Lauderdale, Florida, where her passion for drama began. After being cast in several elementary school plays, Monique discovered that she could make a classroom erupt into laughter by randomly bursting into song or impersonations. From that moment forward, she was committed to captivating attention and making others laugh. Monique graduated with High Honors, with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Theatre from Smith College. While contemplating further graduate work in politics, she decided to pursue a more selfless and stable career… and went into acting. She received her M.F.A. from University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program. With the tools of compassion and vulnerability, Monique uses art to create space and agency for communities of color, especially Black artists. She is drawn to stories advocating for social justice, accountability and healing. Monique is a proud resident of the country of Brooklyn. She is a firm believer of Psalms 27:1.
